1. When 2 power-driven vessels are meeting on reciprocal or nearly reciprocal courses so as to involve risk of collision each shall alter her course to starboard so that each shall pass on the port side of the other.

The mission of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as a United Nations specialized agency is to promote safe, secure, environmentally sound, efficient and sustainable shipping through cooperation. Annex V involves the requirements for the prevention of pollution by garbage from ships. Annex VI deals with the prevention of air pollution from ships.
