Phenoxybenzamine demonstrates a variety of other pharmacological effects including inhibiting the reuptake of NE at presynaptic nerve terminals and acting to various degrees as an antagonist at histamine, acetylcholine, and serotonin receptors.
The predominant, and perhaps only, use of phenoxybenzamine in veterinary medicine is to manage the symptoms of catecholamine excess in the treatment of patients with a pheochromocytoma.
