S .lugdunensis有與S. aureus一樣的結合凝固酶(bound coagulase)或稱凝集因子(clumping factor)，也有相似的病原性
使纖維蛋白原(fibrinogen)變成纖維蛋白(fibrin)保護菌體避免受吞噬細胞及藥物殺死，和溶解細胞外基質蛋白質。
(基本上S .lugdunensis的致病跟S. aureus非常相似，可用PYR區分-/+)
