The most serious concern is intravenous injection of doxycycline in horses, which can be fatal (Riond et al., 1989a, 1992).

IV administration of doxycycline to horses has caused sudden death, most likely caused by a cardiac arrhythmia.

Oral administration of doxycycline to horses has not produced this problem (Davis et al., 2006).
