On August 2, an Air France jet crashed on landing at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

Fortunately, a tragedy was averted避免（avert的過去分詞） and all 309 passengers and crew members escaped.

While the investigation（尤指為揭開真相）調查 is still underway, safety officials have credited表揚, 讚揚 fire-resistant抗拒 materials in the plane as a key factor in preventing loss of life.

According to the Washington Post《華盛頓郵報》, safety officials said "the fire-retardant阻燃 material now required in aircraft cabins船艙,（飛機）座艙 may have helped slow the spread of flames and smoke, enabling all crew members and passengers to escape."
