分泌的毒素以 Apx-I、Apx-II、Apx-III 為主，其中以 Apx-I 溶血性最強。
Apx 毒素屬於結構重複毒素家族(repeats in structural toxin, RTX)，
15 種不同血清型之菌株可產生四種不同的 RTX 毒素，現在已知不同血清型的菌株可產生 3 種 Apx 毒素，如 ApxⅠ由 1、5、9、10、11 血清型菌株所分泌；
ApxⅡ除了第 10 血清型以外之其他血清型都可分泌；Apx Ⅲ由 2、3、4、6、8 血清型所分泌；Apx Ⅳ其活性以及致病作用則尚不明確，
上述四種毒素與金色葡萄球菌共同培養時，會加強其溶血效應。任何血清型都能在體內分泌毒素蛋白，但體外培養的細菌卻不能分泌這些毒素。
