The risk is substantially increased for most statins extensively metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A4 (lovastatin, simvastatin and to a lesser extent atorvastatin) with concurrent therapy with drugs that interfere with CYP3A4
Pravastatin, fluvastatin, rosuvastatin, and pitavastatin are preferred when concurrent therapy with a strong inhibitor of CYP3A4 cannot be avoided.
