The term Black English is a relatively “new” word in American English.

During the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, the adjective形容詞 “black” became popular.

It replaced “Negro黑人男子,” which recalled回憶;回想 the memories of slavery.

Black was considered a more dignified莊重的,端莊的;有尊嚴 word.

Americans began speaking about Black English, Black studies, Black Power, Black History, and so forth等等.  

The origins起源 of Black English really go back to West Africa.

The Englishslave traders(尤指16至19世紀將非洲黑人販運至北美的)奴隸販賣 were often unfamiliar不熟悉 with the various African languages.

They needed a common language to deal with the slaves. The slaves, who came from many different tribes部落, needed a common language to communicate.

This mixture of English and the various African languages was the foundation of Black English.

During the long trip to the New World, the slaves spoke this “new” language.

They built new friendships through this common bond聯繫, 紐帶

More important still, they kept some of their African traditions and customs alive in this “new” language.

Some of the slaves went to the West Indies. Today Caribbean加勒比海地區 English has its own grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.

Despite不管;儘管 the common origins, there are differences between the English of a Caribbean加勒比海地區 Black and an American Black.
