One important problem in all translating and in all attempts at cross-cultural understanding is: can culture A ever really understand culture B on that culture’s own terms? Or do grids always define the ways in which cultures will be able to understand each other? Are the grids the prerequisite for all understanding or not? Language is embedded in culture, and linguistic acts take place in a context and texts are created in a continuum not in a vacuum. In view of intensified globalization, translation is complicated by processes of constant cultural transformation and change.
