AAIDD第十一版定義指南(2012)中所界定之智能障礙內涵
The evaluation and classification intellectual disability is a complex issue. 
There are three major criteria for intellectual disability: 
significant limitations in intellectual functioning,  
significant limitations in  adaptive behavior,  
and onset before the age of 18.
 
The IQ test is a major tool in measuring intellectual functioning, which is the mental capacity for learning, reasoning, problem solving, and so on. 
A test score below or around 70—or as high as 75—indicates a limitation in intellectual functioning.

1. 2002年AAMR定義—MR係指在智力功能和適應行為上存有顯著限制而表現出的一種障礙，所謂適應行為指的是概念（conceptual)、社會（social)和應用（practical）三方面的技能，發生於18歲之前。2.我國（民91）身心障礙及資賦優異學生鑑定標準—指個人之智能發展較同年齡明顯遲緩，且在學習及生活適應能力表現上有顯著困難，鑑定標準如下： （1）心智功能明顯低下或個別智力測驗結果未達負兩個標準差。 （2）學生在自我照顧、動作溝通、社會情緒或學科學習等表現上有顯著困難情形。
