The world-famous magazine the Economist recently commented on the TPP, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, tying together 12 countries, and praised it as the most important free-trade agreement in years. It will be the largest regional trade deal ever, with its members accounting for nearly 40% of the world economy. According to the Economist, the countries that lead the negotiations seek to set a new standard for what trade agreements must entail. They are taking on the morass of regulations, such as local-content rules determining how much a product must be made from local inputs. In addition, the Peterson Institute for International Economics also reckons the TPP will enlarge the economies of the twelve member states by $285 billion by 2025. Despite many challenges and potential flaws, if completed, the TPP, the biggest trade deal in years, benefits the new Pacific trade zone, and also a good news for the world.
