Put into practice in July, 2015, Taiwan’s current basic wage, also known as minimum wage, is NT$20,008 per month or NT$120 per hour, increasing approximately 3.8% from the previous year. To preserve the interest of Taiwan’s laborers, labor representatives pledged to continue pushing for the establishment of formulas for future wage raise. Industry leaders, on the other hand, worried that the raise would cost businesses extra payroll expenses. Some experts believe that in the short term, companies, particularly small businesses will struggle, and jobs will very possibly be lost. In the long term, however, most of the additional wages will go straight back into consumption, and eventually other jobs can be created.
