4. In a clinical trial for the optimal diet to prevent heart disease, a researcher is
evaluating three different diets for her recruited participants with a family history of
heart disease. To compare the cficctiveness of these three diets, 16 participants were
placed on the carbohydrate-rich diet, 32 participants on the protein-rich diets and
unsaturated-fat-rich diet, respectively. After performing the one-way analysis of
variance (ANOVA), the results indicated that triglycerides of the three diet groups
significantly differed (F = 5.338, P-value = 0.007) and weights did not (F = 0.157, P-
value = 0.855). Then pairwise comparisons of triglycerides between any two of the
three groups were made using two-sample t-test as shown in the following tables.
