This was a two error grounding. First the passage plan normally allows a four mile turning radius but the electronic chart only allowed a one mile turning radius at the turn closest to the land. The passage plan had been adjusted to take the ship closer to the island as the automatic course corrector kicked in, the rudder angle heeled the ship too much. Another one man error was the captain taking charge reducing the rudder angle when too close to the island.
